what does a protective order do?

My soon to be ex has been difficult to deal with. She has threatened me and has hidden the kids from me. Would a protective order help?

A protective order is generally used more for acts of violence, but in Florida we often use contempt and threat of jail, plus fees for violation of prior Court Orders, agreements incorporated into Orders and parenting plans. Review your Order or agreement and have your attorney file the necessary pleadings.

A protective order is a court order that tells a person not to engage in certain behavior. For example, the court could order her to not threaten you or hide the children from you. If she violates the court order she will then be in contempt of court and face fines and possible jail time.
